Move – Overcome – Adapt – Grow Stronger
Origins
Originally, the founders were not seeking performance or spectacle, but rather the development of the ability to act effectively, adapt, and persevere in order to overcome obstacles.
Parkour originated in the late 1980s in the Paris region among a group of young practitioners and developed around group training and pushing one’s limits.
Their approach was based on a simple idea: to be able to face reality, help others, and adapt to any situation through the power of the body and mind.
Their practice is rooted in the legacy of Raymond Belle, a Paris firefighter renowned for his physical prowess and dedication. He, in turn, was inspired by Georges Hébert, a naval officer and proponent of the “natural method,” who emphasized comprehensive physical development for practical purposes.

Distribution and perception
Thanks to media coverage, particularly in films, parkour has become widely popular. This exhibition has helped raise awareness of the sport, though it has sometimes presented a one-sided view, focusing on the spectacular or risk-taking aspects.

Playground and Transgression
Development and Practice
As clubs have grown, the sport has diversified, giving rise to both athletic—and sometimes competitive—and artistic variations.
The movement continues to evolve in various forms today. But one question remains:
